Suzanne Bloomberg has been a member of the Friends' Board since
1990. Her involvement has a deeply personal side. Suzanne lost her
first husband, William Luntz, to pancreatic cancer in 1989. Since
that time, she has shown her dedication to community involvement by
serving on the boards of The Max Warburg Courage Curriculum, Boston
Landmarks Orchestra, and The National Pancreas Foundation.
Suzanne brings her expertise in fundraising and her commitment
to sharing the experiences of patients and families who have been
touched by cancer to the Friends. She co-chaired the first Pops
concert and dinner, which celebrated Dana-Farber's 50th
Anniversary. For the first time, the Friends published a tribute
book which enabled individuals to express their appreciation and
honor loved ones. It is now a cornerstone of the Friends' Gala
fundraiser.
In 1994, Suzanne was chair of "Friends 10," an ongoing project
that raised $1 million for AIDS research. She was also instrumental
in getting Fashion Targets Breast Cancer off the ground, forging a
partnership with Saks Fifth Avenue and directing the proceeds over
a five-year period to Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber. In 1999,
Suzanne received the Sidney Farber Volunteer Award.
Suzanne earned her B.S. degree from Boston University and taught
American literature. She worked as a personal shopper and arranged
special events for Henri Bendel. Suzanne was the co-president of
Positive Impressions, a non-profit organization providing clothing
to low-income women transitioning into the workplace. She is
married to Jeffrey Bloomberg, who along with her son, Ben, and
daughter, Heather, are committed to improving the lives of those
less fortunate.
