Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center (DF/BWCC) and Milford Regional Medical Center held a reception to celebrate the five-year anniversary of the cancer center's founding at Milford.

"It is extremely gratifying to see how quickly and seamlessly we have brought together one of the country's top cancer centers, one of its leading academic medical centers and a community hospital known for its care and compassion to provide outstanding cancer care and services to the residents in Milford and the surrounding communities," said Michael Constantine, MD, medical director of medical oncology at Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center at Milford Regional Medical Center.

"Our partnership with Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center, which has resulted in an outstanding, world-class comprehensive cancer center, has been a wonderful gift to Milford and our surrounding communities," said Francis M. Saba, CEO of Milford Regional Medical Center. "Providing easy access to a superb group of clinicians and services for patients and their families who are dealing with this difficult medical problem has been such a tremendous help to so many residents in our region. We are delighted that we have been able to create this collaboration that addresses such an important community health need."

The two-story, 54,000-square-foot cancer center opened in 2008. Patients have access to the latest medical and radiation oncology treatment and an array of support services, including genetic screening and counseling, nutrition counseling, integrative therapies, a resource room for patients and families, pain and palliative care services, and pastoral care. Laboratory and diagnostic services are also conveniently located at the facility.

"Advances in cancer research during the past 10-15 years have made it possible to provide very sophisticated cancer care in a community setting, such as the Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center at Milford Regional Medical Center, enabling patients with cancer to more easily balance their care and the demands of everyday life," said Andrew Norden, MD, MPH, medical director of Satellites and Network Affiliates at Dana-Farber.

"The ability to provide our patients with important services close to home, while adhering to the same treatment protocols that are administered at DF/BWCC in Boston, means our patients do not have to compromise on the quality of their care or the quality of their lives," said Tatiana Lingos, MD, director of Network Development and chief of Radiation Oncology at DF/BWCC at Milford Regional Medical Center. "It is a privilege to care for patients in this environment with the close collaboration of the involved institutions, easy access to world-class experts and sophisticated technology."
