Ivan Samstein named Executive Vice President and Chief Finance and Business Strategy Officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
Ivan Samstein, MBA, was named Executive Vice President (EVP) and Chief Finance and Business Strategy Officer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, in an announcement today. His appointment is effective September 8, 2026.
As EVP and Chief Financial and Business Strategy Officer, Samstein will help guide Dana-Farber’s financial and strategic direction, supporting the organization’s long-term growth, sustainability and operational excellence. In partnership with executive leadership, he will oversee strategic planning and help align organization priorities with key business and financial goals. Samstein will also oversee Information Services and External Affairs, including local, state and national regulatory, legislative and government relations.

Samstein joins Dana-Farber from University of Chicago Medicine and the University of Chicago, where he currently serves as Enterprise Chief Financial Officer for the two entities. Previously, he served as Chief Financial Officer for both University of Chicago Medicine and the University of Chicago individually, as well as for Cook County. Earlier in his career, he was a Director in Public Finance for Bank of America Merrill Lynch and Assistant Vice President for Public Finance at Moody’s Investors Service. His financial career has spanned health care and higher education, with extensive experience leading organizations through transformational change.
A decorated Army veteran, Samstein served as an intelligence officer for an infantry battalion in Afghanistan in 2008 and 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Hunter College and earned his Master of Business Administration from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
