About Our Physician Ratings and Process

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do star ratings and comments come from?

To help maintain the best possible care, Dana-Farber uses the well-established Press Ganey Outpatient Oncology Survey to ask patients about their experience. Surveys are sent to patients after an in-person or virtual outpatient appointment, and patients may take a survey once every 90 days.

We survey patients about all aspects of their care experience. The star ratings and comments on our doctor profiles come from patient responses to this question:

Likelihood of your recommending this provider to others

When are ratings posted?

We share star ratings when a doctor has at least 30 survey responses. Doctors who do not have a star rating may not yet have enough survey responses to share or may be in a group not yet included in our online ratings process. Researchers who do not have clinical contact with patients do not have ratings.

Which comments are posted?

Comments come from patients and reflect their views and opinions. We post all comments about a doctor, positive or negative, and do not edit or remove a comment unless it has:

  • Personal health information
  • Offensive language or other inappropriate details
  • References to other doctors
  • Information not related to patient care
