Blood Diseases

Boston Children's Hospital treats children and adolescents with all forms of non-malignant blood diseases through the Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.

The program offers therapies for all non-malignant blood disorders, including anemia, red blood cell disorders, hemophilia, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, myelodysplastic syndrome, sickle cell disease, thalassemia, thrombocytopenia, thrombophilia, and white blood cell disorders.

From your child’s first appointment, you will meet with medical experts and other professionals to help with all aspects your family's well-being and peace of mind during your child’s care.

Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

The Bone and Soft Tissue Program provides comprehensive care for children and teens with benign or malignant bone and soft tissue tumors.

Our experienced care team will work together to design the best possible treatment plan for your child.

Our pediatric surgeons are nationally recognized for their expertise in removing bone and soft tissue tumors. Through clinical research, our group is also developing new ways to treat children with these conditions.

Brain Tumors

The Pediatric Brain Tumor Program treats children and teens with brain and spinal cord tumors. Our team works to develop care plans that both maximize outcomes and offer your child the highest possible quality of life after treatment.

We also offer access to a range of clinical trials so your child can receive the newest brain tumor treatments based on research into the best current therapies.

Throughout your child’s care, we are committed to supporting all of your family’s needs, including physical and psychosocial support as well as a clinic specifically for brain tumor survivors.

Histiocytosis

The Histiocytosis Program offers your child compassionate care from some of the world’s most experienced pediatric oncologists and internationally recognized pediatric subspecialists.

Histiocytosis is a group of rare diseases that most often affect young children. While it is not a form of cancer, it does share some of the characteristics of cancer and is often treated using some of the same techniques.

Every aspect of your child’s condition will be evaluated by a team with in-depth knowledge of histiocytosis, including pediatric oncologists, dermatologists, orthopedists, and radiologists.

Hodgkin Lymphoma

Our Hodgkin Lymphoma Program offers comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care services for children and adolescents with newly diagnosed and recurrent Hodgkin lymphoma.

As well as offering the latest treatments for Hodgkin lymphoma in children, we provide access to clinical trials investigating new treatment approaches, as well as complex therapies like stem cell or bone marrow transplantation.

Thanks to advances in research and care, the outcomes for children with Hodgkin lymphoma have improved dramatically. Today, the majority of patients can expect to be cured. As a result, our center also offers a long-term care program designed for survivors.

Kidney Tumors

Through our Kidney Tumors Program, your child will receive care from doctors and nurses who are extremely knowledgeable about pediatric kidney cancers.

From your first visit, you’ll work with a team of professionals who are committed to supporting your child and your family’s needs.

The highly experienced surgeons in our program are nationally recognized for expertly removing cancerous tumors, and our interventional pediatric radiologists have expertise in using minimally invasive techniques to kill tumors.

Our researchers oversee laboratory and clinical research that is designed to improve the understanding and treatment of pediatric kidney tumors, and our program participates in national clinical trials.

Leukemia

The Leukemia Program treats children with all forms of leukemia, the most common type of cancer in children. We offer comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, consultation services, and long-term follow-up care for children and adolescents.

All members of our team — pediatric oncologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, stem cell transplant physicians, and pediatric oncology nurses — have specific expertise in pediatric leukemias. Many are recognized as national leaders in their field.

Our support programs and survivorship clinic help patients manage their lives during and after treatment.

We also offer innovative clinical trials for children of all ages and with all forms of leukemia, and our clinical team works closely with researchers to develop new treatments based on the latest scientific discoveries.

Neuroblastoma

The Neuroblastoma Program provides expert, compassionate treatment for newly diagnosed patients as well as innovative therapies for children with relapsed and hard-to-treat neuroblastoma.

Our pediatric specialists are known for treating children with the most complex cases as well as for their expertise in delivering specialized treatments, such as stem cell transplantation.

We consider you and your child integral parts of our care team. You and a team of pediatric oncologists, pediatric radiation oncologists, pediatric surgeons, pediatric subspecialists, and other health care professionals will work together to customize a plan of care for your child.

Our physicians are continuously working to translate laboratory findings into clinical therapies and innovative treatments to best care for your child.

Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma

Our Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Program treats children and adolescents with all forms of non-Hodgkin lymphoma and related disorders, including relapsed or hard-to-treat Hodgkin lymphoma.

Our program is focused on providing family-centered care: from your first visit, you’ll work with a team of professionals who are committed to supporting all of your family’s physical and psychosocial needs.

The members of your child’s physician team all have expertise in pediatric lymphomas, including the specific disciplines of oncology, radiation oncology, surgery, interventional and diagnostic radiology, and hematopathology.

Our program offers the latest treatments for non-Hodgkin lymphoma and our researchers work continuously to develop and refine therapies. We offer an individualized treatment plan tailored to your child’s needs.

Rare Tumors Program

Our Rare Tumors Program treats children with rare cancerous conditions.

We consider you and your child integral parts of the care team and not simply recipients of care. You and your team will work together to customize your child’s care plan.

Your child will receive individualized care from an expert team of pediatric oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, ophthalmologists, and other health care professionals.

Your child will also benefit from the work of our experienced basic, translational and clinical researchers, who study the scientific causes of rare cancers to discover new treatment options.
