Melany Duval Named New Senior Vice President, Development at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute announces that Melany Duval has been named senior vice president, chief development officer, effective January 2019. In this role she will lead philanthropic efforts for Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund.

Duval is a seasoned development executive with extensive experience in managing campaign planning and strategy. She has been Vice President of Development at Silicon Valley Community Foundation (SVCF) since 2017 where she was a member of the leadership team that led philanthropic activities for SVCF. The largest community foundation in the world, SVCF raised more than $1.4 billion in 2017. Prior to that, Duval was the Senior Associate Dean and Associate Vice President of Health Science Campus Development at the University of Southern California and provided leadership for the campaign to raise $1.5 billion for the USC Health Sciences Campus - the largest component of USC’s $6 billion fundraising campaign. She also worked for the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles in roles of increasing responsibility, where she helped successfully complete a $1 billion fundraising campaign — the largest in the institution’s history.

Glimcher, MD, president and CEO, Dana-Farber. “As her experience demonstrates, Melany is an innovative strategist who produces results and we are delighted she is joining Dana-Farber.”   

Duval will succeed Sue Paresky, who announced earlier this year that she would be stepping down at the end of 2018 after 21 years at Dana-Farber, where she led fundraising efforts that grew from $30 million to well over $220 million a year.

“I look forward to working together with Dr. Glimcher, the members of the board, the development team and the Dana-Farber faculty and staff to amplify the philanthropic support that will sustain the mission of the Institute and create even greater impact for the patients and families served by the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,” Duval said. “I am excited to build on the tremendous work that Sue Paresky has done during her tenure at Dana-Farber.”
