Communications and Marketing Internships

Since our founding in 1947, Dana-Farber has been committed to providing adults and children with cancer and blood disorders with the best treatment available today, while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research.
Dana-Farber's Department of Communications and Marketing performs many of the functions of a full-service, in-house communications and marketing agency — for which we have won numerous awards from the New England Society for Healthcare Communications, the Publicity Club of New England, Women in Communications, and others.

We use our communications and marketing expertise to support Dana-Farber's fight against cancer by:

  • Building awareness of, and support for, the Institute's life-saving mission
  • Providing communications and marketing services for Dana-Farber Brigham Cancer Center and Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center
  • Enhancing communication with patients and families
  • Helping employees work more effectively

Interns have the opportunity to be part of one of the most active communications and marketing departments in our area and make a difference in the lives of cancer patients and their families. Interns will work with a variety of specialized teams over the course of the semester to gain a thorough understanding of the roles and functions that make up Dana-Farber’s in-house Department of Communications and Marketing. These roles and functions include:

  • Branded content
  • Marketing
  • Media relations
  • Internal workforce communications
  • Website management and analytics
  • Social media
  • Client management and strategic planning
  • Administration and operations

This is a primarily remote position. Per Dana-Farber policy, the selected candidate may only work remotely from a New England state (ME, VT, NH, MA, CT, RI).

Due to an overwhelming amount of positive interest in our Summer 2024 internship role, our queue is full for new applications. Please bookmark this page and refer to it for information about future opportunities as they become available.

Attention All New Applicants

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute now requires all new hires, students, and volunteers to provide proof of the flu vaccine and COVID-19 vaccine and booster prior to beginning work at Dana-Farber. "I just accepted a position with the Los Angeles Chargers. I am going to be their year-long intern for video production and fan experience, and I couldn't be more excited! I cannot thank you enough times for hiring me as your intern and helping me create an amazing project last summer."

"The work I did as an intern was not only relevant and engaging; it also gave me great experience that I know will set me apart professionally. My time at Dana-Farber showed me the joy of non-profit, intentional work, and I am so grateful I was able to share patient stories and advocate for this amazing institution."

"My time at Dana-Farber was invaluable. I truly felt my skills progressed each time I came into the office. From curating media lists to becoming extremely familiar with pitching local reporters, these are skills I hope to carry with me for the rest of my career. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to intern at such a special place."
