Biography

Erica L. Mayer, MD, MPH

Dr. Mayer is a nationally recognized medical oncologist specializing in the care of patients with all stages of breast cancer, and serves as the director of Breast Cancer Clinical Research in the Dana-Farber Breast Oncology Program.  Dr. Mayer has led national and global clinical trials designed to answer some of the most relevant questions in breast oncology. Her work has focused on novel agents for breast cancer, with a special interest in identifying strategies to improve the tolerability and feasibility of the newest cancer therapies. She also leads the Dana-Farber Breast Cancer in Pregnancy Program, overseeing the care of and research for of women diagnosed with breast cancer in pregnancy. She is the director of the Advanced Fellowships in Breast Oncology, and mentors students, residents, and fellows at Harvard Medical School and Dana-Farber.

Dr. Mayer received her MD from Harvard Medical School, completed her residency in internal medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and her fellowship in medical oncology at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.  She also obtained a Masters in Public Health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She joined the staff of Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women's Hospital in 2006, where she is a breast cancer medical oncologist and clinical investigator in the Breast Oncology Center.

Research

    Erica Mayer, MD, MPH, is the Director of Clinical Research in the Breast Oncology Center at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Mayer has extensive experience leading national and global clinical trials designed to answer some of the most relevant questions in breast oncology. Her work has focused on novel agents for breast cancer, including CDK4/6 inhibitors, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and angiogenesis inhibition. Notably, she is the global Primary Investigator of the PALLAS trial of adjuvant palbociclib. She also leads the Dana-Farber Breast Cancer in Pregnancy Program, overseeing the care and study of women diagnosed with breast cancer in pregnancy, with research focused on optimizing contemporary management for this important patient population. She has a special interest in identifying strategies to improve the tolerability and feasibility of the newest cancer therapies. Dr. Mayer has been recognized by for her skills in clinical research with the 2023 Canellos Award for Excellence in Clinical Investigation and Patient Care, and the 2024 Dana-Farber Clinical Innovation Award.
