Biography
Erik K. Fromme, MD, MCR, FAAHPM
Erik Fromme, MD, MCR is a Senior Scientist and Lead Faculty for the Serious Illness Care Program at Ariadne Labs, a joint center for healthcare delivery innovation between the Harvard School of Public Health and the Brigham and Women's Hospital. The Program’s mission is ensuring that timely, good quality communication about patients’ values and goals happens for every seriously ill patient. Dr. Fromme is a nationally recognized expert in advance care planning, serious illness communication, and POLST (formerly Physician Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment). Dr. Fromme practices palliative medicine at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School.
He received his BA in Psychology with highest distinction from the University of Virginia and MD with honors from the University of Oklahoma. He completed residency and primary care chief residency in Internal Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University as well as a Masters in Clinical Research degree and an Interprofessional Fellowship in Ethics. He also completed Fellowships in General Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital and Palliative Care at Massachusetts General Hospital where he was a Schwartz Fellow in Pastoral Care.
