Biography
Hassan A. Khalil, MD
Dr. Hassan A. Khalil is a thoracic surgeon at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. He is a strong advocate for his patients and is dedicated to the idea that his patients are integral to their own care. He strives to provide state-of-the-art surgical care by forming a multidisciplinary care team of experts for each individual patient.
Dr. Khalil received a Bachelor of Science in biomedical engineering from the University of Houston and worked as a biomedical engineer at the Texas Heart Institute on continuous flow heart pumps. He completed his medical training at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston. For surgical training, he moved to Los Angeles to join the University of California, Los Angeles’s elite general surgery program. He completed both his specialty training at the Brigham and Women's Hospital/Boston Children's Hospital cardiothoracic surgery residency program. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
Dr. Khalil’s clinical practice is focused on the surgical and multidisciplinary care of patients with thoracic and foregut diseases. He has an interest in both benign thoracic disease and thoracic oncology. He specializes in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. His research is centered on epithelial-mesenchymal transition in lung cancer, lung cancer spread through air spaces, mesothelioma, pulmonary angiogenesis, and anastomotic leaks after gastrointestinal surgery. He has presented at numerous local, national, and international summits and has authored many scientific manuscripts.
