Andrea Rittenburg Segel was born in Boston and raised in Newton, MA.
She attended the Sorbonne and Union College, graduating with a B.A. in French Literature.
Andrea has close to 30 years of experience in the retail arena. After years of travel and corporate culture, Andrea is now a retail consultant, balancing her time between her work and her family. She started her career at Filenes Department Stores and from there went on to be a buyer at Filene's Basement and senior buyer at HomeGoods, where she worked for the last 18 years.
It was at Filene's Basement that Andrea met her close friend, Dana Gerson Unger, a Friends Board member. Dana invited Andrea to get involved with the Friends by helping to organize and co-chair the first In the Bag event, a luncheon that took place in October 2019. It is Andrea's hope that this event grows annually and becomes an impactful piece of fundraising for the Friends organization.
Although new to Friends, Andrea is no stranger to Dana-Farber. The care Andrea's mother received over fifteen years was the catalyst for why Andrea chose to get involved in a meaningful way. She said, "every doctor, nurse, receptionist, and volunteer made us feel like my mother was their only patient. The level of care that my mother received was exceptional in every way and for that, I am truly grateful."
In 2016 Andrea was looking for a way to give back to Dana-Farber. She ran both the Falmouth Road Race, and B.A.A. Half Marathon. In 2017 she ran the Falmouth Road Race again. During this time, she raised a combined total of $36,000.
Andrea currently resides in Wayland, MA, with her husband Jay, their two children, Jeffrey and Olivia, and their dog, Murphy. She enjoys reading, running, golf, traveling, theater, and spending precious time with family.
