Due to winter storm Grayson, urgent need for blood and platelets for patients at Dana-Farber and Brigham and Women's Hospital

Posted date

An extreme shortage of necessary blood products is affecting The Kraft Family Blood Donor Center, which provides life-saving blood and platelets to patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital.

This shortage due to disruptions from last week's winter storm Grayson as well as flu season which is now impacting our area. There is a particular need for type O blood donors and all platelet donors.

Blood and platelets donated at the Kraft Family Blood Donor Center support both patients at Dana-Farber going through active cancer treatment, as well as patients at BWH, including babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), trauma patients and pregnant women who experience a high-risk pregnancy condition called placenta accreta.

The Kraft Family Blood Donor Center is located in the Longwood Medical Area. Make your appointment by emailing BloodDonor@partners.org or by calling the Kraft Center at 617-632-3206.
