About the Childhood Blood Disorders Center

Pediatric blood disorders include a wide range of conditions that affect red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets, as well as blood proteins related to bleeding and clotting disorders. Some of these conditions are inherited and passed down from parents who carry the abnormal (mutated) gene. Others are acquired.

The Blood Disorders Center provides comprehensive diagnostic, treatment, and preventive services for a wide range of non-malignant blood disorders. Your child will receive care from some of the world's most experienced hematologists with deep expertise in the conditions they treat. Our Center combines the resources and expertise of a world-class cancer center and a world-class pediatric hospital through the partnership between Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Boston Children's Hospital.

As a national leader in pediatric cancer and blood disorder clinical research and care, Dana-Farber/Boston Children's Cancer and Blood Disorders Center offers innovative treatment options and clinical trials. Our laboratory discoveries frequently lead to new clinical treatments that minimize the impact of these (often) lifelong conditions. Our physicians lead many National Institutes of Health-sponsored clinical trials and networks overseeing studies for thalassemia, transfusion medicine, hemostasis, sickle cell disease, and more.
